Lori Grace Petroff

Lori G. Petroff was born in Scarborough Ontario, lived in a smattering of places all over Ontario and a bit of Nova Scotia, before finding herself immersed and comfy in cottage country.

Lori Grace lives in a cottage house in farm country on Georgian Bay. She daydreams part time at a Thrift Store, on occasion does Reflexology and Quantum Reiki, and works part time as a spiritual counselor together with her tarot cards and all the voices in her head. And sometimes, she writes it all down.

Wax & Wane: It’s Always Summer in Daphne’s Garden

What is your story about?
“It’s Always Summer in Daphne’s Garden” is  a short excerpt from a larger project. As a stand alone piece, it’s a look at a day in the life of a witch concerned with the possibility that she might be aging on her birthday, a night in the life of her crow-familiar who’s reborn every day, and the little details that keep them together.

What do you like most about witches?
They’re crafty, and they’re just my type. (You have to sing it like the Beasty Boys.)

Who is your favorite fictional or legendary witch, and why?
Morgaine le Fay, as portrayed in The Mists of Avalon. Although she’s described as a high priestess as a part of the King Arthur myth, I see her as a modern witch. She could be ay of the witchy ladies I love and adore in real life. A close second would be Elphaba from Wicked. Elphaba is smart and crafty. (See question 2.)

Would you rather be a good witch or a wicked witch? Why?
Any good witch knows you have to be a little wicked to make the magic work. You have to know how to curse in order to cure. It’s a yin/yang thing.

What’s up next for you?
Publishing She and I, a poetry and half-assed essay chap book, finishing the magical fantasy novel, and the OTHER fantasy novel,  and then memorizing the song ‘Stay With Me’ by Faces so I can sing the words ‘tarot cards’ on stage at Monday Night Music Jams with the boys.
